Isgwaqane

- 1 medium pumpkin or butternut, peeled and cubed
- water (enough to cook pumpkin)
- ½–1 Tasse maize meal
- Salz, nach Geschmack
- a little sugar or butter (Optional)
Place the pumpkin in a pot and add enough water to cover it.
Cook on medium heat until the pumpkin is very soft.
Lightly mash the pumpkin in the pot, leaving some texture.
Gradually sprinkle in maize meal while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
Simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring often, until thick and smooth.
Season with salt. Add butter or a little sugar if desired.
Remove from heat and serve warm.
