Wash the patats thoroughly and peel them if preferred. You can also boil them with the skin on and peel them afterwards.
Cut the patats into even-sized pieces for quicker and more even cooking.
Place the patats in a large pot and cover with water.
Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat and simmer for 20–30 minutes until the patats are soft when pierced with a fork.
Drain the water and return the patats to the pot.
Add butter while they are still warm and allow it to melt.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar or drizzle with honey if you prefer a sweeter version.
Serve warm as a side dish with a braai, roast meat, or a family meal.
