Amasi & Umvubo is a traditional South African dish made with crumbly steamed maize meal mixed with sour milk. Quick, filling and affordable.

Ingrédients
  

  • 2 cups maize meal
  • 2 cups water
  • 1–2 cups amasi (sour milk), to taste
  • salt (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Bring the water to a boil in a pot.
  • Gradually add the maize meal while stirring to form a loose, crumbly texture (not stiff pap).
  • Cover and steam on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring lightly to keep it airy.
  • Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  • Add amasi and mix gently until creamy but still crumbly.
  • Add a pinch of salt if desired.
