Ingrédients

  • 1 packet Marie biscuits (about 200–250g)
  • 1/2 cup butter (125g)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 egg (optional but traditional for binding)
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut or chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Crush biscuits: Break Marie biscuits into small chunks (not fine crumbs).
  • Make chocolate syrup: In a pot, melt butter. Add sugar and cocoa powder and stir until smooth.
  • Add egg (optional): Remove from heat slightly and quickly whisk in the egg (stir fast so it doesn’t scramble). You can skip this if preferred.
  • Add flavour: Stir in vanilla essence and salt.
  • Combine: Pour chocolate mixture over biscuits and mix well until everything is coated.
  • Press into tray: Press mixture into a greased or lined tray.
  • Set: Refrigerate for 2–3 hours until firm.
  • Cut into squares: Slice into bite-sized chocolate squares.
