Ingrédients
  

  • 2 cups dried mopane worms (mashonzha)
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2 tomatoes (chopped)
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1–2 cloves garlic (optional)
  • 1 tsp curry powder or paprika (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water (for soaking and cooking)

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the dried mopane worms thoroughly in warm water.
  • Soak them for 30–60 minutes until softened.
  • Rinse again and gently squeeze out excess water.
  • (Optional) Remove any remaining grit or tough bits.
  • Place worms in a pot with fresh water and a pinch of salt.
  • Boil for 20–30 minutes until tender.
  • Drain and set aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Fry onions until soft and slightly golden.
  • Add garlic and spices (if using).
  • Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft and saucy.
  • Add boiled mopane worms and mix well.
  • Cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally until flavours combine.
