South African Fudge
South African fudge is known for its rich, creamy texture and melt-in-your-mouth sweetness. Follow this simple method to recreate a beloved classic at home.

- 2 cups light brown sugar
- 1 tin condensed milk
- 2 tbsp golden syrup
- 5 tbsp hot water
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
In a saucepan, heat the sugar and water over low heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has completely dissolved.
Stir in the butter and syrup, and continue to mix until the butter is melted and fully incorporated.
Add the condensed milk to the mixture and stir well. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
Let the mixture simmer for 30 minutes, stirring regularly.
Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla essence. Whisk until smooth and thickened.
Pour the fudge mixture into a square dish and refrigerate.
Once cooled, cut it into 25 squares.
