Rinse the dried mopane worms thoroughly in warm water.
Soak them for 30–60 minutes until softened.
Rinse again and gently squeeze out excess water.
(Optional) Remove any remaining grit or tough bits.
Place worms in a pot with fresh water and a pinch of salt.
Boil for 20–30 minutes until tender.
Drain and set aside.
Heat oil in a pan.
Fry onions until soft and slightly golden.
Add garlic and spices (if using).
Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft and saucy.
Add boiled mopane worms and mix well.
Cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally until flavours combine.
